Fremantle Camera Club History

In 1967 Bill McKenzie, Mayor of Fremantle, and proprietor of the Friendlies Societies Pharmacy, arranged a meeting of amateur photographers and the Fremantle Camera Club was launched.

The first president was Tony Kukla, the manager of the pharmacy, and meetings were held in rooms at the building. The winners of each section of the monthly competitions were awarded a discount voucher redeemable on any purchase at the pharmacy.

Some years later Laurie Jessup became the next president. Neville and Wendy Riley were foundation members and were awarded Life Membership in 1992.

The venue was later moved to the Fremantle Town Hall and various other locations, including St Brigit's School building before the current site.

Club Meetings are now held 7.30pm on the second Wednesday of each month at 4 Thompson Road in North Fremantle.
